Duties of Residents

  1. Garbage shall be contained in sufficient watertight containers with appropriate handles and tight-fitting covers. Such receptacles shall have a capacity of not more than 50 pounds.
  2. Suitable containers for rubbish and refuse include cardboard boxes, plastic bags, and metal or plastic garbage cans. The weight of any container including the contents shall not exceed 50 pounds.
  3. Shrub trimmings may be picked up without a container if tied in a neat bundle.
  4. Containers should only be set out on your garbage day.
  5. Containers shall be placed at the street curb or beside the alley if pickup is in an alley.

Elderly/Handicap Exemption

If you or the head of the household is over the age of 65 years and/or physically handicapped, the city clerk must be notified in order to qualify for a reduced rate. In order to qualify, you must produce homestead exemption documentation for the city clerk. In these cases, arrangements will be made for pickup at the front or rear of the residence. Billing

Bills shall be on a monthly basis, payable in advance, effective with July 1, 2017 billing.

Rates for City Pickup Service

  • Individual Residence (Except Seniors and the Handicapped) for the first 4 fifty pound containers. If containers are placed at the street or curb. — $15.50 per Month
  • Individual Residence (Except Seniors and the Handicapped) additional containers. — $10.00 per Occurrence
  • Seniors and Handicapped Individuals for first 4 fifty pound containers. — $13.00 per Month
  • Seniors and Handicapped Individuals additional containers. — $10.00 per Occurrence
  • Apartments with individual water meters or duplexes with single water meter if containers are placed at the street or curb. - $15.50 per Month
  • Apartment buildings and complexes under single water billing. If containers are placed at the street or curb. - $15.50 per Month per apt. unit
  • Castlewood Apartment building with single meter. Containers are in ground. - $22.00 per Month
  • Businesses and Churches, other than apartments, fee to be based on average volume of pickup per week. All businesses with oversized cans or items that will not fit in cans - rates will be negotiated with Individual Business or garbage will not be picked up. The base rate is $21.00

Garbage, Rubbish, and Refuse Definitions

  1. Garbage shall consist of every accumulation of animal, vegetable, and other matter that attend or is incidental to the preparation of, consumption, decay, or dealing in the storage of meats, fruits, vegetables, and all other forms of food.
  2. Rubbish shall consist of leaves, grass, cuttings, wood chips, shavings, and shrub trimmings.
  3. Refuse shall consist of papers, cardboard, glass, discarded clothing, ashes, cinders, shells, and metal.

Pickup from residences shall be once per week. In the event of a holiday, pickup will take place the day following the holiday. Material to be picked up shall be limited to garbage, rubbish, and refuse. Disposal of prohibited material will be at the homeowner's expense.
